Marilyn Project 3

I’m thrilled to share the art of my third project, a unique double knitting pattern of the iconic Marilyn Monroe, lovingly crafted for my niece. This was my first foray into creating double knitting patterns, marking a significant milestone in my knitting journey. The project was not just about crafting a beautiful keepsake, but also a labor of love that combined my passion for knitting and the joy of gifting something truly special to my beloved niece. It’s a testament to the remarkable possibilities of double knitting, turning yarn and needles into a portrait of one of Hollywood’s most enduring legends.

My pattern writing journey began in October 2022. It’s been an incredible adventure. Any skill level can double knit; it is simply knits and purls. The patterns have been tech-edited, including links and written instructions for double knitting, casting on, casting off, and closing the sides. (Tech Editing reviews and refines knitting patterns to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency.) They are color charted, either in grey and white or blue and white, as I have found the blue makes it easier to see the chart lines.

My patterns are available on Ravelry and Etsy. There are 12 patterns and a few more on my projects page. Please check it out. https://www.ravelry.com/designers/deb-davenport

It’s incredible what we can create. It’s never too early or too late to learn. Like any artist, our imagination longs to express itself. It doesn’t take long to get into the rhythm of double knitting. This craft teaches patience, and it’s worth the time to learn, practice, mutter a little, and see your masterpiece emerge. I have several ideas in the works.

Please tell me about your experience with double knitting, and feel free to leave suggestions for future double-knit art.

More next time,
Deb
